Gergely Ripka

He is regarded as one of the foremost experts on Tokaj, Hungary’s most important historic wine region, both in Hungary and on the international wine scene. He gained his WSET qualification during ten years of experience in the wine trade and has since become recognised as one of Hungary’s leading independent wine writers and bloggers (tancolomedve.hu).

He quickly fell under Tokaj’s spell, and since 2014 has devoted much of his work to the bilingual TokajGuide, published every two years. Since becoming a freelancer in 2019, he has focused on bringing the finest wines of Tokaj closer to as many Hungarian and international wine lovers as possible. The latest editions of the book received the Gourmand International Awards Best European Wine Book award – in Paris in 2021 and in Portugal in 2025.

He has been an active contributor to the Winelovers Top 100 Magyar Bor magazine for many years and has served as its editor-in-chief since 2025. Through his own TokajMagic tasting club, he brings rare and no-longer-available Tokaj wines back into the spotlight through seated masterclasses, often paired with food, revealing the region’s seemingly limitless potential.

In 2023, the AszúGlass was developed based on his initiative. It was therefore only natural that he should represent the wine region famous for its Aszú on our courses. And when it comes to telling the story of what Tokaj has to offer beyond its iconic sweet wines, few can do it better.
