WSET Level 1 Award in Wines

The WSET® Level 1 Award in Wines is an introductory wine course designed for those who are new to the world of wine and would like to develop a solid foundation of up-to-date knowledge.

During this one-day course, you will learn about the main types and styles of wine, how wines look, smell and taste, and how to describe a wine simply and accurately. You will also be introduced to the basic principles of food and wine pairing.

The course is followed by a multiple-choice examination. Upon successful completion, students receive a digital WSET certificate, internationally recognised as a WSET qualification.

We recommend the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines to:

  • Wine enthusiasts who are seriously interested in wine and value an internationally recognised qualification.
  • Those considering a career in the wine industry, particularly those planning to work abroad.
  • Professionals working in hospitality, gastronomy or wine retail who would benefit from an internationally recognised qualification in English.
  • Participants with a confident command of English who would like to study and take the examination in English.

How the course works

The course is delivered as an intensive one-day classroom course in English.

During the course, we taste nine wines representing different wine styles and topics covered in the syllabus. The day concludes with the WSET Level 1 examination.

 

Entry requirements

There are no prior knowledge or qualification requirements for the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines.

Participants must be 18 or over to taste alcoholic beverages during the course. Students under the age of 18 may attend the theoretical part of the course and take the examination, but cannot participate in the wine tasting.

Students who do not consume alcohol for health, religious or other reasons may also take the examination. Please contact us in advance so that we can discuss the available arrangements.

Discounted price

Available when payment is completed and the transfer has reached the school's bank account at least 15 calendar days before the course start date.

Group and student discounts

Group discount: 5% off the total course fee for groups of at least 5 participants.

Student discount: 10% off for participants under 25 who present a valid student ID.

Discounts cannot be combined.

Additional information

The course fee can be paid online by credit card, bank transfer, or in person at the Winelovers Wine College office by cash or credit card. A gift certificate can also be used to pay for the participation fee.

The SimplePay system provided by OTP Bank ensures the security of your payment.

After applying, we will send you the necessary transfer information by email.

The application will become final after the payment has been received, and we will send you a confirmation via email.

Personal payment

It is possible to make personal arrangements at the Winelovers Wine College office during opening hours.

The course fee must be paid in full by the start of the course using the chosen payment method.

The course date can be modified or postponed to a later date, subject to availability, in writing, at least 72 hours before the start. The paid course fee is non-refundable in the event of cancellation or absence, but the right to participate is transferable to another person.

You can cancel your registration within 48 hours of registering without giving any reason, provided that there are at least 72 hours left until the course starts. In this case, the full fee will be refunded.

  • Exam: Held at the end of the teaching day
  • Registration deadline: 10 working days before the start of the course
    • Participants registering after this deadline will be offered an alternative exam date
  • Exam format: 30 multiple-choice questions; pass mark: 70% correct answers
  • Language: English
  • Certificate: Issued upon successful completion of the exam

Number of participants: A minimum of 7 people are required to start the course. The maximum number of participants for the course is limited; if the dates are full, you can apply for a waiting list.

Prerequisites: You can only apply for a higher level course with appropriate qualifications.

Language requirements: WSET courses require confident English language skills.

Course materials: Course materials are sent to students via email before the course starts. The price of WSET courses and Cheese and Wine courses includes the required textbooks. For all other courses, the recommended textbooks can be purchased separately.

Special educational circumstances: Our school aims to make our courses accessible to everyone. Please let us know if any of the following apply:

  • Applicants under 18 years of age – without tasting the wines, listening to the theoretical part and taking the exam is guaranteed.
  • Sensory barrier – e.g. reduced perception of colors, smells.
  • Limited mobility – we will provide the necessary conditions during the course.
